Yang Gang Wisdom #7: Platform Banking
The end of phonebanking. The rise of all the banking. Triple #MATH Attack.
Hey Yang Gang,
I appreciate you and I hope you enjoy this latest newsletter. As always, please consider making coffee at home instead of buying it out and maybe passing those savings over to Mr. Andrew Yang with the Yang Gang Wisdom donation link.
☎️Phonebanking is over. Textbanking is next.
As we saw in a past survey result, about 60% of people said they did not phone bank because they didn’t want to intrude, find phonebanking too intimidating, or would rather do something else. Many simply said they didn’t have enough time. My personal reason for not phonebanking was it felt too much like telemarketing and telemarketing, at least to me, has a negative effect. If I get a telemarketing call, it will usually make me think worse of the company calling.
It was announced this week that phonebanking, which used to be a high priority was being stopped in favor of textbanking. There simply weren’t enough people volunteering to phonebank and the data showed that textbanking was more effective. Phonebanking got us this far, but what will take us all the way to the White House is when we take over all the platforms.
📣Platform Banking
“The media can’t ignore us forever. Our movement is too powerful and our collective voice is too loud.”
This message was from a recent Yang campaign email and it made me think about how the mainstream media has either been blatantly ignoring or underrepresenting the campaign and whether it was possible to actually ignore us forever. The answer is no, but they don’t have to. They just have to starve us of media attention for the next six months or until the early primary elections are over. If Yang doesn’t perform well in any early state or Super Tuesday it’s more than enough to kill the campaign. We can’t be surprised if they keep ignoring us. In fact, it might be better to assume they will ignore us as long as they possibly can, but instead of getting angry let’s get even. Let’s take over every possible platform on the internet where the people, not the gatekeepers, make the content.
It’s true not everyone is on Twitter, but almost everyone who is not on Twitter is on at least one of the following: Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok (kids influence parents), etc. Let’s get in there, create those free accounts, follow and support the Yang Gang, and get the message in front of people wherever we can. There is no one best way. We each have our own way to do it depending on what we like and what we’re good at. Phonebanking was not for everyone and knocking on doors is not for everyone, but there are a million ways to contribute and I have a feeling the Yang Gang is going to shine in all the ways that no one else is thinking about. That’s how we’ll win. They may ignore us forever, but it doesn’t matter because
“our movement is too powerful and our collective voice is too loud.”

😠#YangGangRage … to #YangGangLove 😀
This week I saw once again how unique our movement is and how it is a true remedy to the pettiness and divisions that so dominate our times. Like many people, I was upset when I saw this very misleading segment from Stephen Colbert about Yang’s rallies:
Each one of us has our own triggers, but this one got to me because it was so opposite of the truth and I’m normally a fan of Colbert. Luckily, the Yang Gang came to the rescue with a little reminder of how we are a different kind of movement and Colbert is doing a comedy show.
The lesson is to be aware that there may be a kneejerk emotional reaction, but reacting that way is not going to help. The best solution is to take a breath and try to see things differently because eventually, even God wants to vote for Andrew Yang.
🎪Our Big Tent
Andrew Yang represents the return of nuance –the return of interacting with people who think differently than we do. The big tent and diversity of the Yang Gang means we don’t really have a choice. People often seem confused and even suspicious about how one man can bring together people from so many different backgrounds, but to me this simple tweet captures the kind of guy he is:
He’s not pretentious. He’s not condescending. He appreciates the differences—the nuance. Even when facing criticism about his main policy, he keeps it respectful. Our inspiration comes from the top. This is the leadership that Andrew Yang brings and I have seen it again and again in how most of the Yang Gang interacts with people online. It’s why what we’re doing is working and why our reach is so broad.
Best of the Week
#MATH
I got my TI-84 signed by Yang at an event recently
The man really is good at #MATH.

Yang Gang Shout-Out
The Yang Gang is so inspirational. From the amazing work on #NationalYangGangDay to all the people organizing events every single week, but this week’s shout-out is for all the Yang Gang getting out there and keeping it simple. Dallas-Fort Worth, you’re making us proud!
Hashtag = #Yangapalooza
The best hashtag since #YangGangLove in my humble opinion has to be #Yangapalooza! For some reason it just makes me smile. There’s going to be a giant Yang Rally in Iowa so please get involved if you’re within a reasonable distance.
